$0 NT NTCAT Small Claim Filing Checklist

NTCAT Registry Locations — Darwin, Alice Springs, and Remote Filing

One of the first practical questions when filing an NTCAT small claim is straightforward: where do you actually lodge the paperwork? NTCAT operates two primary registries, but the Northern Territory is vast and not everyone lives within driving distance of either one. Here's every filing channel available, whether you're in Darwin, Alice Springs, Katherine, Tennant Creek, or a remote community.

Darwin / Casuarina Registry

The main Top End registry handles most NTCAT filings territory-wide.

  • Address: Level 1, The Met Building, CASCOM Building 5, 13–17 Scaturchio Street, Casuarina NT 0811
  • Postal address: PO Box 41860, Casuarina NT 0810
  • Phone: 1800 604 622
  • Email: [email protected]

Walk-in filing is available during business hours. You can pay fees at the counter by cash, EFTPOS, or credit card. If you're filing by email or post, fees are processed over the phone — NTCAT discontinued its online payment form in June 2026.

Alice Springs Registry

The Central Australian registry serves applicants in the Red Centre and surrounding regions.

  • Address: Westpoint Building, 1 Stott Terrace, Alice Springs NT 0870
  • Postal address: PO Box 1745, Alice Springs NT 0870
  • Phone: 1800 604 622
  • Email: [email protected]

Both registries share the same phone number and email. NTCAT hearing locations include Casuarina, Alice Springs, Katherine, and Tennant Creek. Contact the Registry to confirm where your matter will be heard.

Filing From Katherine, Tennant Creek, and Remote Areas

If you live in Katherine, Tennant Creek, Nhulunbuy, or a remote community, you don't need to travel to Darwin or Alice Springs to lodge your claim. Three options:

1. Email filing Email your completed Form 1 to [email protected]. Do not attach evidence to the initial Form 1 unless the Registry specifically directs you to. If you are applying for a fee waiver, include Part H of Form 1, Form 8, and recent supporting financial evidence. Call 1800 604 622 to arrange phone payment of the filing fee. This is the fastest option from anywhere in the Territory.

2. Regional NT Court registries Local Court facilities in Katherine, Tennant Creek, and other regional centres accept NTCAT Form 1 applications on behalf of the Tribunal. You hand your documents to the Court registry staff, who forward them to NTCAT. Fee payment arrangements vary by location — call 1800 604 622 first to confirm.

3. Postal filing Mail your completed Form 1 to either postal address above, with a bank cheque, solicitor trust account cheque, or money order payable to "Receiver of Territory Monies." Do not attach evidence to the initial Form 1 unless the Registry specifically directs you to. Alternatively, post the form and call the phone line to pay by card.

Which Registry Should You Choose?

NTCAT currently lists hearing locations at Casuarina, Alice Springs, Katherine, and Tennant Creek. Contact the Registry if you need to confirm the venue for your matter.

Parties are expected to attend in person. To request permission to appear by phone, complete a Form 3 Ordinary Application with your reasons and supporting evidence. NTCAT decides these requests case by case; phone attendance is not a right.

Payment After the June 2026 Change

Since 1 June 2026, NTCAT no longer accepts online credit card payments through its old electronic form. Your payment options are now:

  • Phone: call 1800 604 622 and pay by card while speaking with registry staff
  • In person: cash, EFTPOS, or credit card at the Casuarina or Alice Springs counter
  • Post: bank cheque, solicitor trust account cheque, or money order payable to "Receiver of Territory Monies"

This change catches some people off guard — if you see old guides referencing an online payment portal, that system is no longer available.

No matter where you are in the Territory, you can file an NTCAT small claim without visiting a registry in person. Our NT NTCAT Small Claim Filing Guide covers every step of the process, including remote filing procedures and what to expect after your application is accepted.
